Venue where the Bluegrass Underground radio shows for WSM are being recorded. This all took place deep within a cave at Cumberland Caverns in Middle Tennessee. It is simply amazing that we are able to go to see bluegrass in such a beautiful place… I couldn’t beleive it the whole time I was there. Grammy winning engineer Nashphil (Phil Harris) was in charge of the audio and gave Amanda and I tickets… Thanks again Phil!
UPDATE 10-14-08:
I have just been enlisted as the official photographer for the Bluegrass Underground tapings… 2 great shows coming up… The Infamous Stringdusters Nov 8 and Tim O’Brien Dec 6. You won’t want to miss these!

What an amazing concert! Buddy Miller, Stuart Duncan, Alison Krauss, Robert Plant, T-Bone Burnett, Dennis Crouch, and one hell of a drummer… I never caught his name. Alison in top form and Robert Plant extremely professional and quite humble. You could sense a great deal of mutual respect.

Ween put on a great show in Nashville Wednesday night… The place was so packed I had to put the camera up after a few shots. Too many drunk people packed in like that make me nervous. Awesome performance! I went with 2 hardcore fans that were extremely satisfied and I was extremely impressed, although I have never listened to the band. The way Aaron (Gene Ween) connects with the audience is truly special. There was a very real connection with the band as well. You could tell they were happy to be in Nashville playing their songs for a very dedicated, loyal, and quite large fanbase. I’ve never personally seen City Hall that crowded.

Dan Tyminski and his band put on a fabulous show tonight at the Belcourt for Dan’s CD Release Party. Spectacular!!! The professionalism of this band is unbelievable. Adam Steffey not only smoked on the mandolin, but had us laughing the entire show! Read the rest of this entry »

What an amazing voice! Shawn Mullins voice sounds the same singing into an sm-58 at 3rd and Lindsley as it does on his albums… perfect! He has one of the purest rock voices I’ve ever heard. It was surprising to see him without Clay Cook, Clay plays most shows with Shawn as I understood it, but this turned out to be a special treat. Shawn is truly a professional and captivated the entire venue. Everyone in the place got to know him and the songs a little better. I just can’t get over how good his voice sounded!

To put it mildly… I was skeptical. I have been a die hard Blind Melon fan since early high school and I honestly believed that Shannon Hoon could not be replaced. Perhaps he never truly will be, but Travis Warren, the band’s new singer, was amazing last night in Nashville.
These songs are too good not to be played and I’m not sure there can be anyone better to sing them than Travis Warren. This guy can sing! His voice filled the Cannery Ballroom with ease and carried these (notably hard to sing) songs like a pro.

Secret Chiefs 3 - the opener for the Les Claypool Fancy Band… very strange, very cool! No one does music like this band. Nobody. Got this shot with my Contax Zeiss 135mm f/2.8 lens.

The Les Claypool show in Nashville was amazing! The man is a genius. He makes playing the bass look effortless. They made us turn the cameras off right before the costumes came out, but I managed to get a few shots. He changed into a few different masks throughout the rest of the night. The monkey mask scared my girlfriend a little bit. That was when he came out during the percussion solo and played this crazy stick with a bass string on it with some sort of whammy bar up top… anyway, it’s the instrument he used on the south park song, one of his own creations. Kinda creepy the way he burst onto the stage during the percussion solos and busted out this freaky instrument in a monkey mask. Awesome, nonetheless!!!

Tim O’brien playing his nugget a-style mandolin at the Station Inn… Early 2008. kodak bw400cn pushed 2 stops courtesy Chromatics in Nashville.
Tim was in classic form for this show…. as if I’ve ever seen a bad performance. He played all the usual instruments, even played Bryan’s martin guitar a few times. It was a special treat to see not only Bryan Sutton in the band, but Darrell Scott as well… Awesome!!!
Casey Driessen, Kenny Malone, and Dennis Crouch were spectacular as always. Casey is simply one of the most unique fiddle players in the world. His grammy nominated solo debut on Sugar Hill is amazing, btw. You should buy it!
Tim invited a special friend he met in Japan to sing and play a few songs as a duet, as well as with the full band before the night was over. This guy, I wish I remembered his name, was extremely nervous but sounded great. Everyone really enjoyed the unique style he brought to the station.
All in all, Tim put on another wonderful show!

Adrienne Young played at our Creative Caffeine Studio open house with Oliver Craven and it was a wonderful treat for those who were lucky enough to see it! This shot taken with Fuji Natura 1600. Read the rest of this entry »
Best I could do from the very last row. The special guest jams were amazing… you could definitely feel the tension between Chris, Sara, and Sean the entire night. It was time to take a break. 11-29-07
In this pic you will find Sean Watkins, Chris Thile, Tim O’brien, Bela Fleck, Sara Watkins, Mark Schatz, Gillian Welch, and David Rawlings.
Andy Leftwich and Dave Pomeroy playing another spectacular Three Ring Circle show at The Station Inn. This was for Rob Ickes’ Reso Summit November 2007. First time I saw Dave Pomeroy without a beard. Might have made him play even better!

I’ve been a fan of Scott Miller ever since he opened up for Tim O’brien at the Belcourt a few years back. Shortly thereafter he opened for Yonder at the Trap. Both shows were incredible. This show during the Amerciana Music Festival in Nashville was the first time I saw him with a full band playing an electric guitar… it was surprisingly awesome! 10-31-2007
